Pilot Project Blog for ECCTYC
10/15/2005
This blog space draft has been created for ECCTYC board consideration. To contribute, a board member can simply log in as a blogger and--contribute.I envision this site as the blog of many, where officers or regional directors or the journal editor can post to each other and to constituents about a wealth of topics, including but not limited to ECCTYC news, regional reports, exciting future conferences, details on guest speakers such as C. Bazerman, interesting links on education, news flashes from community colleges, expected print dates for books or up-and-coming journals such as i.e. or In the Grove... The more news, the better, and the more board contributors, the better.
If the board likes this idea, we can easily integrate this blog into the ecctyc website, get rid of the "blogger" header at the top, and create more user profiles. If you'd like to try out a post, I can set you up as a blogger for this site, and you can post a test to see how it works.
This may be a great and very simple way to add life to our web presence quickly. In the future, ecctyc may wish to consider the creation of an "open source" website such as Kairos News, where any interested educator can join in the idea generating of an online community. This would be a larger undertaking but may yield much fruit.

Gary,
I love the idea. You and I talked about this at dinner in Long Beach during the conference, so of course you know my opinion. The great, late John Lovas was also a long time blogger and knew the impact of this medium---as instant, visual, and interactive. I hope the ECCTYC Board joins me in endorsing this idea. Gary, thank you for launching it.
On a related note, I would like to congratulate and thank everyone who worked so hard to put on the conference. I'd also like to thank all the presenters, publishers, and participants who made the three days such a lively and engaging conference.
It was a great one.
Thanks for the comment, Lee! I think that once board members log in as bloggers and get into the swing of things, they'll find it a very enjoyable experience. I always have fun with the process, knowing that I can communicate my thoughts to a wider audience instantly.
Gary,
We talked about the possibilities of starting a blog like this over a year ago at one of our board meetings, so thanks for taking the initiative to begin this work.
