The Benefits of the ECCTYC Blog
10/18/2005
Welcome to the new ECCTYC blog. If the board responds positively to this new web component, we can link to it on our website and use it as a new communication tool. The blog empowers each and every board member interested in reaching a larger audience. It's very easy to post; all a board member needs to do is email me their interest, and I will send her or him an invitation to contribute. The more contributors, the better! Here are just a few of the many practical applications of this powerful communication tool:
- REGIONAL NEWS FLASHES: Has something exciting happened on a particular campus in your region? Post the news and include a link back to the college's English Department or to pertinant faculty members. Then send them the URL to let them know we've written about them.
- AWARD ANNOUNCEMENTS: Best i.e. article, The Nina Theis Award...
- ONLINE DISCUSSION: For instance, Erik or Michael can post a query about the important adjunct issues raised by Natasha Bauman and then use the URL to hold a conversation with any interested constituent. Or an officer can post a query for ideas on any given California Education issue, and folks can respond directly below the post.
- OFFICIAL REGIONAL REPORTS: You can directly post official regional reports here.
- CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS: You can even include a picture on the blog.
- EDUCATION IDEAS: For instance, if you have found an online resource that works particularly well for your classes, share it on the blog.
- i.e. UPDATES
Any other ideas?
Special thanks goes to Erik Fritz for his generous time devoted to the tweaking of the complicated html on this site. Due to Erik, it's now a much leaner and meaner blogging machine.
PS: More reasons to blog? 1) There's a huge blogging community out there, ready to befriend us and interested in what we have to say. 2) A blog builds a sense of community. It's less static, more dynamic, and invites people into a dialog with us. 3) It's a news generating machine. 4) It's just plain fun. To learn more, visit The Art of Blogging by George Siemens.
